MY BACKGROUND
I’m Lydia, owner and creator of Lydia Smith Cakes (formerly Lydia’s Cakes) based in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire. I have always enjoyed baking cakes and when my children were small, I loved designing and making their birthday cakes.
I was encouraged to attend a royal icing course taught by Eddie Spence MBE, who has made spectacular cakes for our Royal family including the Queen’s Golden Wedding Anniversary and Diamond Jubilee cakes.
After just a few classes, I was completely hooked on cake decorating and all things cake. I continued to take weekly classes with Eddie for over five years, during which time I soaked up a wealth of knowledge and produced some truly stunning royal iced cakes in the process.
Friends began asking me to make them celebration cakes, most of which were fondant iced cakes. After making birthday cakes and cupcakes for a while, I was eventually asked to make a wedding cake. I absolutely love the process of creating, designing and constructing wedding cakes from the initial consultation, to making sugar flowers, right through to setting it up at the venue on the morning of the wedding. I really enjoy being a small part of a couples’ special day and helping them design the perfect cake that is unique to them and fits with their wedding theme and style.
One aspect of cake decorating which I have become particularly passionate about is crafting sugar flowers, and I regularly undertake more professional training to further develop my skills, both in sugar flowers, and other aspects of cake decoration. I hold a 5-star rating with Test Valley Borough Council and have a Level 2 Certificate in Food and Hygiene.
It’s important that I work closely with my customers to ensure I produce the best possible cake for your special occasion. Each cake is individually designed and meticulously handcrafted. Every celebration deserves a special cake and I strive to realise that for you.
